Introducing CuraNexus: Why We Built a New EHR for Home Health

Devin Epaarachchi (Systems Integration Engineering Intern, Lux Cognitiva) 3 min read

Home health is a $150 billion industry in North America and a £10 billion market in the UK. It’s growing fast — driven by aging populations, hospital-at-home programs, and the simple economics of delivering care where patients actually live.

But the technology behind it hasn’t kept up.

The problem we saw

The EHR systems that home health agencies use today were built for hospitals and adapted — poorly — for field work. Nurses spend 40% of every shift charting instead of caring for patients (Black Book Research 2025, national survey of 9,000+ U.S. nurses). Referrals arrive by fax. Authorizations expire because nobody tracked them. And agencies pay $200–500 per clinician per month for the privilege of using software their staff actively dislikes.

We saw three specific gaps that no existing vendor was addressing:

Documentation burden. Agencies spend $15–25 per chart on offshore QA review to catch the gaps their own EHR creates. That’s a direct labor cost that modern AI can eliminate.

Revenue leakage. Expired authorizations, denied claims, and referral bottlenecks cost agencies thousands per month in unrecoverable revenue. Most agencies don’t even know how much they’re losing.

Compliance complexity. PIPEDA in Canada, UK GDPR and CQC in the UK, provincial health privacy legislation — home health operates under multiple overlapping regulatory frameworks, and legacy systems treat compliance as a checkbox rather than a foundation.

What we built

CuraNexus is a complete clinical platform for home health agencies. Not a hospital EHR adapted for field work — built from scratch for the way home health actually operates.

The platform covers the full clinical and operational workflow: patient intake, clinical documentation, medication management, wound care assessment, care planning, scheduling, secure messaging, and an AI assistant that understands each patient’s full clinical picture.

The AI is designed to run privately on the agency’s own infrastructure. No patient data is sent to external AI services. It generates SOAP notes from voice or text, flags documentation gaps before submission, and answers clinical questions in context — with the same audit logging and access controls as every other feature.

What’s next

We’re in active development with a demo available at demo.curanexus.io and looking for early-access partners. Our immediate roadmap includes referral intake, authorization tracking, and building toward formal compliance verification for UK market entry.

If you run a home health agency — in Canada or the UK — and want to see what we’re building, request a demo. We’ll walk through the platform and talk about how it could work for your team.

We built CuraNexus because we believe healthcare technology should serve the people who deliver care. Everything we ship is tested against that standard.
